Children in the Salem-Keizer community have an opportunity to enroll in early childhood education programs to support their foundational learning during the 2022-23 school year. Salem-Keizer Public Schools currently has openings available for enrollment in three early childhood programs to serve children three and four years of age.

Head Start Program

Head start programs are offered through Community Action Head Start and Salem-Keizer Head Start for the 2022-23 school year. Head Start programs offer preschool education, health, nutrition and family services to low income families.

Eligibility Requirements

Head start programs are open to children three or four years of age as of September 10, 2022. Families who meet federal income guidelines, are homeless, foster children, families who receive Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), or Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI) are eligible.

Title 1 Preschool Program

Free preschool programs are available to children who reside within the attendance boundaries of the district’s Title 1 elementary schools. Preschool is offered five days a week for half-day programs and transportation will be provided when possible.

Eligibility Requirements

Title 1 preschool programs are open to children four years of age as of September 10, 2022, and reside within the following school attendance boundaries:

  • Bush Elementary
  • Four Corners Elementary
  • Grant Elementary
  • Highland Elementary
  • Richmond Elementary
  • Scott Elementary
  • Swegle Elementary
  • Washington Elementary

Preschool Promise Program

Preschool promise is a free preschool program available to children. The program is held at six locations, each serving 20 children:

  • Bethel School
  • Clear Lake Elementary
  • Myers Elementary
  • Richmond Elementary
  • Scott Elementary
  • Seymour Center

Eligibility Requirements

Preschool promise programs are open to children three or four years of age as of September 10, 2022. Families must also be within the federal income guidelines between 0% – 200%. Preschool Promise is a state funded program. Marion & Polk Early Learning Hub monitors the program and reports to the Early Learning Division
